EVALUATION INFORMATION

What to Expect:

The U18 level is a crucial final step in a player’s minor hockey career. Our evaluation process is designed to identify players with the potential to excel at the next level, whether that be college hockey, junior hockey, or beyond.

  • Elite Skill & Hockey Sense: We seek players who demonstrate exceptional hockey IQ, high-level skill execution, and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Physical Maturity & Competitive Drive: Strength, conditioning, and the ability to compete physically are essential at this level, along with relentless effort and work ethic.
  • Leadership & Character: We value players who show leadership on and off the ice and who embody teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship.
  • Preparation for the Next Level: Evaluations help us identify players with the potential to succeed in college, junior, or other post-minor hockey pathways.

By participating in U18 evaluations, your daughter will have the opportunity to showcase her talents and compete for a roster spot that will prepare her for the next stage of her hockey career.

Important Information:

  • Registration: All players must be fully registered, with fees paid in full, before participating in evaluations.
  • Equipment: Full hockey equipment (including a neck guard) is required for all skates. Remove player names from helmets and cover/remove team stickers. Players must wear plain or Comets socks.
  • Jerseys: Jerseys will be provided for evaluations, and the assigned jersey number will be used for all skill skates.
  • Evaluation Dates: Check back for specific evaluation dates and times. Regrouping will occur throughout the process—please check for regular updates.
  • Evaluators: Player ratings will be completed by off-ice, independent evaluators during evaluation sessions.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: We welcome volunteers. Sign up at the registration table or contact the division coordinator if you can help with gate duties or other roles.

Note: You MUST report to the Comets desk before your second session to confirm registration. This helps ensure you are evaluated correctly. If your daughter is unable to attend an evaluation session, please email the coordinator.

How Parents Can Help

Parents play a crucial role in supporting their child’s hockey journey. Here are some tips:

  • Encourage & Support: Celebrate effort and commitment—not just results.
  • Set Realistic Expectations: Reinforce that evaluations are part of learning and growth; not every player will make the top team.
  • Focus on Development: Emphasize skill improvement, teamwork, and fun over winning.
  • Be a Good Sportsperson: Model respectful behaviour and cheer for all players—not just your own child.
