Nora Hutchison, a U18 player, is an inspiring presence within Comets Hockey. She has not only is the recipient of our Karina Misfeldt Memorial Award but was also nominated for the prestigious Evan Thomas Memorial SMHA Sportsperson of the Year Award & Scholarship. Her dedication, passion, and selflessness make her an exceptional candidate for this recognition.

Alongside excelling in her U18 games, Nora demonstrated her commitment to hockey by volunteering as an assistant coach for a U13 team. She devoted countless hours to practices and games, offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support to the younger players. Her ability to create a positive and inspiring team environment had a lasting impact on the U13 players, deepening their love for hockey. Through her involvement in both on-ice and off-ice activities, Nora ensured every player felt valued and supported. Her enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and leadership made her a role model, embodying the values of teamwork and fair play.

The U13 players expressed their admiration for Nora, describing her as kind, supportive, knowledgeable, and an outstanding role model. Her approachable nature and ability to explain the game in a way that was easy to understand highlight the meaningful connection she fostered with the team and the significant influence she has had on their hockey journey.

Nora’s contributions go far beyond typical expectations for a player her age. Balancing her own U18 commitments with her volunteer coaching role, she has made an exceptional impact on the Comets community. Her tireless efforts to mentor and inspire young players showcase her passion for the sport and her dedication to its growth.

Nora’s profound influence on her teammates, the U13 players, and the broader community reflects her leadership, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to hockey. She is a truly deserving candidate for this award.

Winner of Lexi Gabruch Memorial Award – PARKER CROSS.

Parker Cross has been chosen as the winner of the Lexi Gabruch Memorial Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership and perseverance throughout this season. Despite sustaining a significant injury during the very first shift of the Comet Fury season, Parker displayed incredible resilience by continuing to attend every practice and game while fulfilling her role as captain with unwavering dedication. She remained actively involved in all team activities during her recovery, contributing by taking stats and being a positive presence for her teammates during road trips, practices, and off-ice events.

Rather than letting her injury sideline her, Parker chose to lead by example, inspiring her teammates and supporting them from the bench and sidelines. Remarkably, after breaking her wrist in the season’s opening game, she returned to the bench as the team’s biggest cheerleader just hours later. Always present to motivate her team and assist the coaching staff, Parker demonstrated the true qualities of a leader. Even after six weeks off the ice, she returned to the lineup with the same passion and determination, continuing to uplift her team at every opportunity.

Parker epitomizes perseverance and leadership, and her contributions have extended far beyond the rink. She has set a lasting example that will be remembered by every player on her team making her a truly deserving candidate for this award.

Winner of Comets JR Coach of the Year – Brodie Zuk.

Coach Brodie Zuk is a passionate, dedicated, and inspiring leader, making him a standout candidate for Comet’s Jr. Coach of the Year. Having coached U7B and U7A over the past few years, Brodie has made a remarkable impact on players and coaches alike with his commitment to fostering a love for hockey, especially for girls.

Brodie goes above and beyond for his team and coaching staff, fostering collaboration through early practice plans, constructive feedback, and valuing input from assistant coaches to create a supportive and inclusive environment. His leadership is marked by excellent communication skills, a cheerful demeanor, and a genuine desire for growth as both a coach and mentor. Focused on skill development, Brodie tailors practices to emphasize skating fundamentals, helping players grow in confidence and ability. Guided by his philosophy, "If the girls aren’t having fun, they’re never going to enjoy the game," he ensures players thrive both on and off the ice, leveraging his own exceptional skating expertise to inspire and develop the next generation. 

Beyond his role as a coach, Brodie actively gives back to the community through initiatives like Christmas basket donations and warm clothing drives, instilling values of gratitude and teamwork in his players. His empathy shines in moments of need, as he consistently organizes thoughtful gestures to support families, further showcasing his commitment to making a lasting impact.

Brodie’s infectious enthusiasm, strong leadership, and commitment to both player development and community involvement have made a lasting impact on everyone he works with.  For these reasons, he is an outstanding choice for Jr. Coach of the Year.

Winner of Comets SR Coach of the Year – Mike Crelin

Mike has consistently demonstrated an exceptional commitment to fostering his players' growth both on and off the ice. His influence extends far beyond hockey, with his thoughtful efforts to create a stress-free and inclusive environment for players with unique needs, as well as his strong focus on skill development and teamwork. Mike’s leadership creates a fun, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere that motivates every player.

Through well-organized practices, personal insights, and genuine care, Mike has helped players grow both as athletes and individuals. His coaching philosophy builds resilience and life skills, shining through in every smile on the ice.

Putting his team and players above the scoreboard, Mike fosters a sense of community and equality among his players. He exemplifies preparation, fairness, and balance in coaching, meticulously planning practices that focus on steady player improvement while maintaining enjoyment. His commitment to fair play is evident in critical playoff games, where he ensures all players contribute equally, regardless of the stakes.

Mike’s unwavering dedication, humility, and impactful approach make him an outstanding leader and an ideal candidate for "Coach of the Year," a fitting recognition for his invaluable contributions to our Comets Organization.

Winner Comets Volunteer of the Year Award – corrine haight.

Corrinne Haight was an integral part of the U18 AA Comet Legends this past season, serving as their exceptional manager with remarkable organizational skills, dedication, and care that made her indispensable to the team. From carefully coordinating pre-packed meals and bus trips—complete with a Starbucks stop for the coach’s pre-game ritual drink—to ensuring every aspect of the season was flawlessly executed, Corrinne consistently went above and beyond to create an unforgettable experience for players, families, and staff. Even in her absence, her meticulous planning and delegation ensured everything ran seamlessly.

Corrinne’s impact extended far beyond logistics. She was instrumental in fostering team spirit and creating a positive, respectful environment where players thrived. Her passion for the sport shone through in events like the U7 ‘Future Legends’ Day, which she flawlessly organized. Activities such as face painting, poster making, and personalized candy bags ensured every young athlete felt valued and celebrated, helping to inspire the next generation and further the growth of women’s hockey.

Corrinne’s attention to detail was unmatched, from planning hotels and meals to organizing team-building activities, allowing players and coaches to focus on the game. Whether it was selecting accommodations for comfort, coordinating meals to suit everyone’s needs, or ensuring each player had what they required, her dedication remained unwavering. Her behind-the-scenes efforts were crucial to the team’s success, strengthening both their on-ice performance and their camaraderie off the ice.

Despite balancing full-time shift work, Corrinne wholeheartedly dedicated herself to the team, leaving an enduring impact on players, parents, and coaches. Her invaluable contributions to the Comets over the years and her ability to create meaningful and memorable experiences make her an outstanding nominee for the Comets Volunteer of the Year Award. Corrinne, thank you for enriching the Comets community and touching the lives of everyone you’ve supported.
