Awards and Scholarships

These awards are a great way to recognize a deserving Player, Coach, Manager or Volunteer on your team that goes above and beyond. 
Please pay close attention to the criteria below and submit an email explaining why the nominee deserves one of these awards.  For the Lexi Gabruch and the Karena Misfeldt Awards, please ask your coach to submit the application directly.  Make sure to include the age division and team name, along with your contact information to promotions@cometshockey.ca on or before March 1st.
 
Criteria for the awards:

 


LEXI GABRUCH MEMORIAL

This award is open to current S&DFHA players in ALL AGE DIVISIONS with the exception of U18. Nominations will only be accepted by one or more of the nominee's current season's coaches, with the exception of a family member.  The player must achieve a minimum of two of the following criteria:

  • Exhibits sportsmanship and is a team player
  • Displays extraordinary contributions above and beyond regular club team participation for the love and betterment of the sport.
  • Continues to display positive ambassadorship to S&DFHA on and off the ice by showing excellent leadership, good sportsmanship and fair play on a continual basis.
  • Is deemed valuable to her hockey team through displaying values such as integrity, passion, teamwork, and courage;
  • Is a positive mentor to fellow players in all divisions by assisting with on or off ice activities.

KARENA MISFELDT AWARD

This award is open to U18 aged players only. Nominations will only be accepted by one or more of the nominee's current season's coaches, with the exception of a family member.  The player must achieve a minimum of two of the following criteria:

  • Exhibits sportsmanship and is a team player
  • Displays extraordinary contributions above and beyond regular club team participation for the love and betterment of the sport.
  • Continues to display positive ambassadorship to S&DFHA on and off the ice by showing excellent leadership, good sportsmanship and fair play on a continual basis.
  • Is deemed valuable to her hockey team through displaying values such as integrity, passion, teamwork, and courage;
  • Is a positive mentor to fellow female players in all divisions by assisting with on and off ice activities.

 


COACH OF THE YEAR

This award is open to current S&DFHA Coaches in ALL AGE DIVISIONS Nominations will be accepted by any current S&DFHA Member or Team, with the exception of a family member. Please keep the following criteria in mind when submitting your nomination:

  • Exhibits dedication and service well beyond the normal expectation of a coach
  • Follows Fair Play Codes, emphasizes skills development and the fundamentals of the game
  • Provide a well organized, safe, enjoyable and rewarding training and playing environment for all players
  • Strong rapport and have earned respect from players both on and off the ice.
  • Developed a mutually respectful relationship with game officials, opponents, parents and supporters.
  • Commitment to improve their ability as a coach and the ability of each team member, as well as to stimulate all players regularly with new skill ideas.
  • Awareness of the duty of care as a coach and show compassion and humility.
  • Foster enthusiasm, interest and an excellent attitude towards all aspects of hockey participation.

Please be as detailed as possible as this award will not be awarded based on winning records and or winning percentages.


VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

This award is open to any current S&DFHA Member and is directed at adult volunteers who may assist their Comets team or organization in the areas of: Team Manager, Treasurer, S&DFHA Executive Duties, a combination of the above or in another volunteer capacity   Nominations will be accepted by any current S&DFHA Member or Team, with the exception of a family member. Please keep the following criteria in mind when submitting your nomination:

  • Shows dedication to their team or S&DHA through countless hours of volunteer work.
  • Displays exceptional organizational and planning skills. 
  • Provide a well organized, safe, enjoyable and rewarding training and playing environment for all players
  • This person has a positive impact on their respective team, has shown effective communication and promotes genuine respect for players, coaches, officials, opponents and parents. 
  • This person represents a positive public image for the S&DFHA.
